Employee leave is an essential part of HR management, yet many SMEs are unsure about what is legally required and how many days employees are entitled to each year.

Here is a simple summary of leave types according to Thai labor law:

1) Sick Leave
• Employees may take sick leave as needed.
• Employers must pay wages for up to 30 days per year.
• A medical certificate may be requested if the employee is absent for more than 3 consecutive days.

2) Personal Leave
• Employees are entitled to 3 paid personal leave days per year.
• Companies may offer additional days based on internal policy.

3) Annual Leave
• Employees who have worked for at least 1 year are entitled to a minimum of 6 days of annual paid leave.
• Many companies provide more, such as 10–15 days per year.

4) Maternity Leave
• Female employees are entitled to 98 days of maternity leave, including weekends and public holidays.
• Employers must pay for 45 days, and the remaining 45 days are paid by Social Security.

5) Other Types of Leave

Companies may also provide additional leave such as ordination leave, military service leave, study leave, or compassionate leave depending on policy.
